Wet and windy weather sent us scurrying off of Galveston Island and eastward to Louisiana. All new territory and culture for us to explore here in Louisiana.
Son of a gun, we're gunna have some fun on the bayou! This Louisiana coastal prairie is a topographical phenomenon that originated with sedimentary deposits from the Mississippi River over the last seven thousand years. The millions of tons of sediment washed down this 3700 mile long river from over a million square miles of drainage has created a series of deltas, marshes, ponds, bayous, lakes, canals and watery habitat that not even God could conceive. There seem to be no limits on the creativity of the natural world...I am in Awe!
We spent out first day in Louisiana birding the Creole Nature Trail of southwestern Louisiana and bagged 39 species just on our own including a new species for us, the Seaside Sparrow.
